  • You’re Invited! Travel to Kosovo with the National Council

Interested in experiencing another country’s mental health and addictions care first-hand?

The National Council invites you to join us and NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, for the International Exchange Trip to Pristina, Kosovo, from May 18 to May 25, 2019.

As part of the delegation, you will have the opportunity to observe behavioral health service providers and discuss their methods and experiences implementing programs designed by international experts. You’ll learn from these programs and exchange U.S.-based best practices. The topics of discussion and site visits will focus on:

    • Epidemiology of addiction/mental health disorders in Kosovo.
    • Assessment, intervention and referral, treatment and care options for substance use disorders and mental health.
    • Scarcity of service providers and access to treatment initiatives.
    • Role of primary care and community-based services in identification and treatment.
    • Ongoing quality of life and community rehabilitation programs.
    • Resources for patients and affected family members.
    • Treatment for post-conflict traumatic disorders.
In addition to these learning opportunities, you can participate in planned cultural excursions that provide insight into this unique country and its diverse populations.

You are welcome to invite a travel companion (colleague/significant other/family member) to experience this trip with you. And please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone you think might be interested.

More details and registration information can be found on NAADAC’s website.

For questions, contact Whitney Ball at WhitneyB@TheNationalCouncil.org. We hope you will join us in Kosovo for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
